Difficult conversations with yourself:
- Is this job right for you?
- Do you feel empowered?
- Do you feel safe?
- Do you feel you can discuss issues with your boss?
If you have some no's here you need to think about whether you feel you can have a conversation with your boss?
Anxiety thrives on that feeling of weakness you will have if you don't feel safe, empowered and able to talk if you have an issue.
Whilst at work there are many things you can do that will help you cope. Some you won't even realise ar helping
- Your Diet
This one is simple but also not. By eating fruit and vegetables rather than either nothing or left over chips you will give your mind more strengh.
- Water
The simple act of drinking a few pints of water a day keeps your brain hydrated. You wont know it, but your mind will work better
- Coffee, alcohol and drugs
I'm not saying avoid them. Coffee has always been an aid in the kitchen but you know how much is too much. We consious of how much caffiene you are having and whether its making you feel good
Alcohol and Drugs are always likely to depress but I think we again all know how much we can handle and still be at our best. Again, be aware.
- Difficult Convos
Find the way you can have those difficult conversations. Discuss mistakes and what you dont like in your job. If a conversation can't be had then its time to move on.
Outside of work:
Get this right and the amount of pressure you can cope with in the kitchen will go up. Work / Life balance is a thing for the modern chef.
Make sure you have passions outside of work. Whether that is your kids, running, yoga or knitting having the external focus helps you when things are hard.
It gives you something better to care about
